2 boxes Carroll Shelby Chili Mix (any decent mix will do; buy what you like)
16 oz fresh tomato sauce (in your grocer's dairy case)
1 tub of chopped onions
1 tub of chopped peppers
1 tub of chopped pico de gallo
1 tub of chopped celery
1 can of petite diced tomatoes
small handful of fennel seed
don't forget the extra side things that you might want to serve (shredded cheese, rice, Fritos, whatever)
Readme:
Hour and a half-ish before they arrive:
Brown the meat (with the fennel seeds added)
Put your chili pot on the stove
Dump all your containers (including sauce and tomatoes) and the chili mix in the pot and stir it up
Dump in the browned meats
Add some water if you think that would be good
(since this is for family we're skipping the hot packet, salt, pepper, beans; season as you prefer)
Boil, then simmer (remember to keep stirring every now and then)
Oh look, they're here! Is everyone ready? 10 minutes? Cool.
Add Masa flour to thicken; make it look like chili
10 minutes later:
Serve with a side bowl of your favorite shredded cheese
Or any other side things that you thought of
